"Pahalgam or the 'village of shepherds' is the most popular tourist resort in Kashmir after Srinagar; partly because of the variety it affords: mountains, pine, fir forests, a spectacular river and a lively marketplace."
Arguably one of the most beautiful places on earth, the town of Pahalgam (Village of Shepherds) offers you breath taking views. You can just enjoy the town of Pahalgam or trek to some of the most beautiful places on earth. One can trek to Lidderwat, Kolohoi Glacier or to Sonmarg. Pahalgam is also the entry point for the famous Amarnath Cave, a holy site for Hindus.
Pahalgam - The Valley of Shepherds |
Pahalgam is located on the banks of the Lidder River, at the river's junction with the Shesh Nag. The resort is situated at an altitude of 2,130m. The Pahalgam valley is very attractive and spreads along the banks of the Lidder River, which is the local point of interest to the angler. The river Lidder runs through Pahalgam in a rushing torrent, foam flecked, and breaking in curling waves against the boulders that lie in its path, lending it both charm and majesty. The sound of the river Lidder is as eternal as the whisper of wind through pine and fir.
If there was to be just one word to describe Pahalgam, it had to be MESMERIZING....for that is what Pahalgam does to a person; it mesmerizes and captivates one with it's sheer beauty....
ReplyDeleteRight from the time one leaves srinagar and reaches the vicinity of pahalgam, the gradual lowering of the temperature and a certain nip and freshness in tha air is immediately felt...a sure sign of the things to come..as one approaches nearer, the gentle stream of the lidder river is seen runnning parallel to the road.....The gentle stream gradually increases to a turbulent flow by the time one reaches the outskirts of pahalgam and here's where the true beauty unfolds....
Try and imagine the turbulent flow of the lidder river surrounded by the snow-clad mountains on all sides and passing thro' the lush-green valley of Pahalgam......and maybe you have some idea of the sheer beauty of pahalgam.....
There are numerous parks in Pahalgam namely the poshwan park, club park, deer park, lidder amusemnt park, lavender park and also pre-designated picnic spots but for me, pahalgam appeared as one big picnic spot, .....every turn, every corner would offer a different scenery and a different perspective of the lidder river and the surrounding mountain ranges.
For sight-seeing around pahalgam, one can go to betaab valley(hajan... a beautiful valley), aru valley( a very picturesque picnic spot) and chandanwadi by car....Baisaran and kashmir valley can be done by pony or foot( amoderate trek is involved but highly recommended) as also tuliyan lake....
All in all, Pahalgam is an absolute sight to behold and its captivating and mesmerizing beauty is a feast for the senses and not to be missed
The Sheer Beauty of Pahalgam
ReplyDeleteThe place is full of wonderful sceneries. The mountains, river and the weather, all were pointing towards the "Heaven on the Earth". I visited the place for Amarnath ji Yatra but i would recommend people to just go there and relax. The Apple trees on the way to Pahalgam via Srinagar was a delight. The view of river Jhelum was the cherry on the top. All in all my experience was the best i have ever had...!!!
ReplyDeleteOn the way to pahalgam the views of the river & mountains are breathtaking. However, on reaching pahalgam initially sounded us dull but pony ride is worth with a trip to aru valley. Baisaran has a charasmatic view popularly known as "mini swiss"...pick of all spots. Must see.
